Mindfulness
Mindfulness is based around being present in the moment, awareness of your everyday life. The benefits of being mindful are profound and can help you in every aspect of your life. Here are a few ways to become more mindful:
- Be present in your life. - Know that the present moment is all we have. Accept and embrace the present moment and give it gratitude.
- Focus on one thing at a time. – For example, get rid of distractions when eating. Studies find people who eat with distractions are more likely to over consume calories. Turn off the TV, put the phone away, and eat in silence.
- Meditate. – Find a time where you won’t be disturbed and meditate. Turn on relaxing music, find a comfortable position, close your eyes, and focus on your breathing. Start out doing this for 5 minutes a day and increase your time from there.
- Practice yoga. – Just like meditation, yoga can bring you internal and external awareness. Yoga has physiological and psychological benefits.
- Total body awareness. – Being totally aware of what’s going on with your body, internally and externally, as well as the mind, can have profound health benefits.
